Bellows are the most commonly used for metal surface finishing.<\/p><p><strong>Type 2 Anodizing<\/strong><\/p><p>Anodizing is an electrolytic process of passivation. After the process, the parts obtain better durability and resistance.<\/p><p>Applicable materials\u2014Any aluminum<\/p><p>Colors&#8212;The anodizing layer does not provide any particular color, many colors can be added onto the surface through the process.<\/p><p>Texture\u2014Does not cover machine marks unless media blasted or polished before hand<\/p><p>Thickness\u20140.00007\u201d<\/p><p><u>Design notes <\/u><\/p><p>Parts without holes will be racked with clamps, or wire wrapping, which will leave the racking area without anodize color. Consult with the anodizing shop on how to rack the parts.<\/p><p>Also notice that anodizing has insulative properties.<\/p><p><strong>Type 3 Anodizing, also known as hard anodizing <\/strong><\/p><p>Applicable materials\u2014Any aluminum<\/p><p>Colors&#8212;Clear, darker than type 2 anodize, black<\/p><p>Texture\u2014Does not cover machine marks unless media blasted or polished before hand<\/p><p>Thickness\u20140.001\u201d or thicker. Sometimes can be up to 0.004\u201d<\/p><p><u>Impact on Tolerances<\/u><\/p><p>The thickness of Type 2 anodize remains almost the same after the process. The tolerance is not affected by the process since there\u2019s very little amount of material is removed.<\/p><p><strong>Zinc Plating (galvanization)<\/strong><\/p><p>Applicable materials\u2014Steel, Stainless Steel<\/p><p>Colors&#8212;Clear (light blue), black (glossy black)<\/p><p>Texture\u2014Smooth, machine marks can not be hided<\/p><p>This process is very useful for polishing irregular parts. The tolerance is not affected by the process since there\u2019s very little amount of material is removed.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Tumbling <\/strong><\/p><p>Tumbling is also applied often after the material was machined.<\/p><p>Applicable materials\u2014Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel<\/p><p>Colors&#8212;N\/A<\/p><p>Texture\u2014Smooth edges only, does not hide all machine marks<\/p><p><strong>Bead Blasting <\/strong><\/p><p>This a process is very commonly used after the CNC machining. It removes impurities from a surface. In order to do this, fine glass beads are applied through a very high pressure.
